A space to go inward.
Psychiatry, psychotherapy, and ketamine-assisted care for adults in Oakland and beyond.

Warm care, evidence-based medicine, and real curiosity about people.
Dr. Jack Gillean is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with sixteen years in practice. His path runs through some of the hardest corners of mental health care. He began in the Philadelphia prison system, moved to community mental health in Denver, and spent years administering TMS in a large group practice, before training intensively in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and working closely with Dr. Phil Wolfson at the Center for Transformational Psychotherapy.
Today he sees adults full-time in solo private practice at Innerspace Psychiatry in Oakland. Whether you come for medication management, psychodynamic therapy, or ketamine work, the care is the same: warm, collaborative, and genuinely curious about you.
“Seeking a psychiatrist can feel overwhelming. I work to make that first step feel safe, and hopeful.”
When he is not in the office, he is climbing, in the gym and in the mountains, which is its own kind of practice in staying steady on hard ground.
A career built on going toward difficulty.
From prison psychiatry to community mental health to the frontier of ketamine-assisted treatment, sixteen years of doing the work in the places it is hardest to do.

When other approaches have not been enough, a different kind of depth.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is one of the most promising treatments in psychiatry for people who have tried other approaches and not found enough relief. In a single three-hour appointment you move through a preparation conversation, receive an intramuscular dose of ketamine held in a carefully prepared therapeutic setting, and do active psychotherapy as the medicine opens a different quality of attention. The evidence for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and chronic pain is substantial and still growing.
Preparation
We talk through your history, hopes, and questions in depth, so the session feels safe and clear before anything begins.

Integration
A follow-up session to make sense of what surfaced and carry the experience into your daily life.
This is not an infusion clinic. The preparation before and the integration after are what turn the medicine into lasting change.
